So here is the start of this project:

More will follow…..

Hello,
The wheels are from a JCB wheel loader toy I found at the local toy store. The tyres are in rubber and they actually fir right on the Italeri rims :ok:

Hello again!
It is time for a new update of the Scania R480 8X8 Army project.

I needed to cut the foot steps in order to make the shorter since I am going to use the Scania 4-series front.

Hello!
Thanks for the comments!
The transfer gearbox is self made but I actually used some parts from a gearbox of a Tamiya BMW K100 motorcycle kit in scale 1/12 ! That in combination with some other “junk yard” parts I had turned out to work just fine for this project.

Hy Hakan,

very nice work so far. I´m sure the result will be another great Truck out of your "factory". :ok:

The idea for the tyres is realy a graet one and the transfer gear box is an amazing work, too.

Keep going on on this level! :ok:

Be sure that I will stay at this report...

Hello!
Thanks for the comments!
There has been a small progress in the Scania R480 8X8 Army project. I have spent some time working on the high air intake. Even here I used a piece of the fuel tank from the BMW motorcycle kit. I try to use as much old “junk yard” parts as possible.

A small progress on the chassis has happened as well but still it remains much work…..

Hello again!
There has been some further progress in the Scania 8X8 Army project. A roof rack, the lower part of the front grille and the wildbar has been finished. Now there only remains a few more details until it is time for the paint job.

I have also plans to scratch build a hook lift and then I am going to have a 20ft container as load.

Hakan

I am so impressed by the detail you have captured on this big beast. I would love to have the access to the real vehicles for a try out to compare how it feels and drives from my memories driving the DAF.

It looks as if the Scania would have a much more modern feel and comfort factor. Do the real trucks get kitted out with optional Hiab behind the cab for the Dutch Army as extra kit?

Also does the cab easily accept extra add on crew armour for use in forward operational areas?

I am green with envy :abhau: that you have access to Scania detailing at work.

Am watching this to the end for sure.

Hello!
Thank you very much for the positive comments and feedback!
To answer your questions Nige: No the Dutch Army order of Scania 8X8 vehicles did not include any crane behind the cab. It has a hook lift for containers or other type of loads as body build. But the Irish Army for example has a few of those Scania 8X8 vehicles as well and some of them do have a crane fitted behind the cab in combination with a hook lift. To be completely honest I am not making a detailed copy of any existing vehicle but my model is strongly influenced by several Scania Army orders such as the Dutch, Irish and so on.
Regarding the cab it can be upgraded with a ballistic kit which means a lot of extra armour to both the front and the side of the cab. This also includes thick bullet proof windows and so on.

Now back to the model project. Lately some interior work has been done. As details to the interior I added a couple of maps and also a drivers manual for this type of Scania 8X8 Army vehicle.

To be continued…..
Best regards
Håkan
