Jaguar E Type 3.8L FHC - Heller 1:24

This is a Heller 1:24 scale model of the Jaguar E Type 3.8L FHC. It took a lot of effort to transform this basic kit into a realistic looking model, but it was worth it in the end. The model was enhanced with Renaissance wire wheels and some photo-etched parts, with a lot of extra attention to the engine bay detailing. Because the model will be shown with open engine hood, I tried to build an engine that was as realistic as possible.
My main goal however was to achieve a model where the join between the upper body and the lower body (situated at the door bottom) becomes invisible. Every single model of the E-type, in any scale, shows this ugly join which doesn't exist at the real car. I think my main goal was achieved, and to prove my point I show you the pictures of the model.
Enjoy!

Hallo senake

Hi Sennake,

Congratualtions for this greatly detailed and awesome painted E_Type.
Hard to belief it's scale 1/24.

How did you do this joining of the body with the bottom tub? I'd assume you had
to put the whole interieur and windows in place before filling the joint and doing
the paintjob?

Too bad it's no convertible. I'd love to see more of the interieur.

Regards,
Bb

That is absolutely correct! I can show you a few pictures of the different stages of this procedure:

1) the interior is finished, the windows are in place, but the 2 body parts haven't been glued yet:

2) the body parts are fixed together, and the seams are filled and sanded smooth:

Notice that the rear window hasn't been fixed yet because it can be glued from the outside; it is of course masked for the paintjob.

3) the model has been primed:

4) model has been spraypainted with 3 layers of Tamiya TS-08 Italian Red:

5) all masking has been removed and BMF has been applied; procedure was a succes ;)

As for the interior, I made some pictures before I closed the body forever of course:

As you can see for yourself, I kept the interior clean but very simple, just because there is not a whole lot to see once the model is closed. But! I also have the convertible version by Gunze Sangyo in my to-do stockpile, and when I will build that model, the interior will be superdetailed.

What did you take to cover the windows from color while you painted the body?

Bare metal foil for the borders, and I filled the rest in with Maskol.
