The German company Krone is one of the leading European trailer manufacturers. This time I wanted to produce a model of one of the Krone semi-trailers in Swiss forwarding company Hangartner AGs livery. The major idea was to weather the trailer to reproduce the real condition of the trailers which are constantly on the road. These trailers really are tools - not truck show stoppers...
As a starting point I choose the Italeri kit 3809 which actually represents a Schmitz trailer. Even though the main construction of these euro trailers is somewhat the same from company to company, some modifications was to be done to capture the Krone looks.
The ladder frame and suspension was built straight from the box. Rims and hubs were changed to better detailed KFS parts. Also the wings were scratched from the parts box to achieve the curved form. The Italeri underrun bar was scrapped and a custom order photo-etch parts were used to complete a new bars with Krone logo and text.
The latches and straps from the canvas sides were carved off and replaced with somewhat work-consuming but absolutely better looking KFS photoetch ones. They were painted separately and added to the ready painted model.
The front wall of the real Krone trailer is of a corrucated profile, so the Italeri smooth one was to be replaced with one made out of styrene strips. The doors were used almost as from the box. Only some minor fiddling with hinges and locks was carried out.
After the construction, the model was primed with VossChemie gray primer and then airbrushed with Auto-Air acrylics. Decals were designed and printed by me. Dirt and weathering was applied with Mig Washes and Pigments
And here are the images:
Overview of the trailer. I find the green livery with yellow roof quite acctracting in the real life and that gave me the idea to reproduce the trailer as a model
Small details
Underrun bar. It would have been quite a taxing job to produce this using any other method

Aft view. Dirty!
Even the roof has received its part from the effects of the everyday traffic
